Last Day of School!!!!

Today marks the last day of school and my tradiational drive to Greensboro, NC for the Nike Outdoor Nationals! This year, I'm making the trip with Melanie Bauman and Rod Cocci. Between us we have a few All-American, numerous state and sectional champs and one Meet of Champions Winner (Moe Laffan - Shot Put for Coach Cocci). We are leaving as soon as we can after school so we can get to the hotel at a decent hour.
My day started with a great run in THE Park. There was a nice drizzle when I drove up to school at 5:30am but as soon I parked, the deluge began! I had to run then because I wouldn't otherwise...especially with a 10 hour drive in the rain ahead of me. Somebody called me a workaholic the other day, maybe I just like to punish myself! It was a great run though. I am finally feeling good.
For Holmdel, this meet marks the end of of a career for George Galasso, the fastest distance runner in school history. He is a many time sectional champion 2 time state champion, 1st team All-State runner, Footlocker Finalist, All-American, and he is going to my Alma Mater to run. His school records on the track include the indoor 1600 4:24.70, indoor 3000 8:54, outdoor 3200 9:15, out 1600 4:16, outdoor mile 4:18. On the XC course his records include Warinanco Park (16:14), Ocean County Park (15:25), Van Courtlandt Park (12:36), Bucks Mills Park (15:48) and possibly Holmdel Park (16:02 - debating the run of McCarthy from 1977...different course?) George, with his fellow sneior class have changed the face of running here at The 'Del and it will be sad to see them go. I will be proud to watch him run his last high school race Friday night in the National Championship 2 mile...Bongo drummers and all!
